Izzi Guzman is a dynamic trombonist, composer, arranger, and educator dedicated to sharing joy, creativity, and authenticity through music. Based in Miami and Orlando, FL, she strives to bring stories to life through her art and foster accessible and creativity-rooted music education for the next generation.

Praised for her innovation and technical prowess, Izzi has performed with renowned groups such as the John Daversa Big Band, Frost Jazz Orchestra, and Florida Wind Symphony Jazz Orchestra. Along the way, she’s collaborated with jazz legends like John Daversa, Jazzmeia Horn, Brian Lynch, Etienne Charles, and Marcus Strickland, cementing her place in the jazz world. Her versatility as a performer is matched by her ability to bring her own voice to each musical setting, whether it’s an intimate jazz combo or a large ensemble performance.

New Album

Named after the town I grew up in for most of my childhood, Celebration is a collection of original music and arrangements representing the joys of growth, self-discovery, and friendship.

Tracks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, and 9 feature a small ensemble, and tracks 6 and 8 feature a full big band with special guests. All compositions (except 1 and 7) and arrangements by Izzi Guzman.

Each track was recorded at the Weeks Recording Studio at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami in November and December 2024.

Performer

Versatile in genres ranging from jazz to classical to funk, Izzi shows her passion and joy for music on every stage. As a trombonist, she has performed alongside John Daversa, Jazzmeia Horn, Etienne Charles, Dante Luciani, Brian Lynch, Danilo Perez, Mimi Jones, and many other notable figures. She has performed on notable festivals including the South Beach Jazz Festival (2025) and Newport Jazz Festival (2019). As a multi-instrumentalist, Izzi regularly performs on multiple instruments, including tenor trombone, bass trombone, trumpet, and flugelhorn.

Educator

Izzi has years of experience teaching private music lessons, K-12 music, and early childhood music education. In 2023, Izzi was the Student Director for the Frost XJB Big Band. She completed her student teaching internship at an elementary and K-12 school in Miami in 2024, teaching elementary general music and secondary band. She served as an Outreach Teaching Assistant for the Donna E. Shalala MusicReach Program from 2024-2025. She is currently a Suzuki Early Childhood Music Teacher with the Frost Preparatory Program.

Composer and Arranger

Izzi specializes in jazz ensemble arranging and has written music for jazz combos, jazz big bands, orchestra, and mixed ensembles. She has composed for the Frost Jazz Orchestra directed by John Daversa, Frost Studio Jazz Band directed by Etienne Charles, the Frost Trombone Choir, and numerous other ensembles of varying sizes and genres. As a bandleader, Izzi regularly composes and performs her own music in varying jazz styles, blending her influences ranging from contemporary jazz to 80's disco. Her big band composition “A Warm Welcome” can be heard on Historic Landmarks of Miami: Live at Gusman Concert Hall 2024, a live album recording produced and directed by John Daversa.
